About Us
Jason Wordie
Jason Wordie is an established local historian and writer. He has made his home in the New Territories for more than twenty years.
A History graduate from Hong Kong University, he was a Council Member of the Royal Asiatic Society, Hong Kong Branch for some years. He also served in the Royal Hong Kong Regiment (The Volunteers) from 1990-1992. A keen recreational hiker, and an enthusiastic gardener, Jason is an active member of the Hong Kong Gardening Society.
Ruins of War: A Guide to Hong Kong’s Battlefields and Wartime Sites, jointly written with Ko Tim-keung, was his first book, published in November 1996. Subsequently he prepared the manuscript of The Voices of Macao Stones, Sir Lindsay and Lady Ride’s illustrated general history of Macao, for publication by Hong Kong University Press.
Following its successful release in 1999, other popularly-orientated books followed – these include Streets: Exploring Hong Kong Island, published by Hong Kong University Press in 2002, and its companion volume Streets: Exploring Kowloon, published in 2007.
For some years Jason had two regular columns in the South China Morning Post that explored numerous aspects of local history, culture and society. His most recent column was Out and About, a popular column that appeared every week in the Sunday Morning Post’s Post Magazine.
In recent years Jason has conducted historical walking tours in Hong Kong, Macao and Canton (Guangzhou) as well as historical lectures for a variety of local community groups and cultural organisations, in addition to various well-known corporate bodies.
